Karen Chugg - Dietitian & Psychotherapist

Dietitian & Psychotherapist BSc (Hons) Dietetics; Adv. Dip. Psychotherapy; Registered Dietitian; currently completing MSc Weight Management with Sports Nutrition

Since qualifying as a Dietitian, I have worked in research environments, in industry and within the National Health Service for several years, covering a variety of specialities in both adults and children, including gastrointestinal disorders and eating disorders.

As a Dietitian, I am aware that eating is often about so much more than food.  In certain conditions, such as obesity, diabetes and eating disorders, a healthy eating plan can only be achieved by first exploring the reason as to why people eat too little or too much and then identify alternative approaches to resolve these issues.

Dietary advice mainly focuses on the foods eaten and rarely looks at the underlying problems. I recognised that by combining dietetics and psychotherapy, I would be able to offer a more integrated approach, providing dietary advice and support to help people achieve long term dietary changes.   With this in mind, I trained in psychotherapy to complement my dietetics and in 2002 set up CAREFREE EATING .   I am now able to offer this service at The Massage Clinic.

Over the years I have also developed an interest in Sports Nutrition, working closely with cyclists, runners and triathletes, providing personalised nutritional advice during training and events.  In addition, I am in the process of studying an MSc in Weight Management with Sports Nutrition to ensure that I give up to date and informed advice.
